So this is how it happened. Friday, I was getting us all ready to got out of town to visit some friends and I was running out the door to finish running some errands. Well, I decided before leaving I should dry the stuff in the washer. (and no, I didn't try to dry them on the stove...I'm not that blonde.) There was a laundry basket on the washer, so I need to put it some where to get the clothes out of the washer. Well, since our washer and dryer are in the kitchen, I often put it on the stove. I know, not a bright idea.....as I can see that now. I remember thinking "its probably not a good idea to put this on the stove, but i know the stove is off, so it will be okay". Well apparently the stove was on. I have no idea why it was on. We hadn't used it all day. All I can figure is that I accidentally hit the knob and it turned on. The reason I think this is b/c it was on HIGH and the coils were not red when I put the plastic laundry basket on it.
So anyways, as I'm loading the dryer with the wet clothes I smell something weird. I turn around trying to figure out what the smell was and I see smoke coming from the laundry basket. I think oh no....the basket going to be melted. I didn't think it would be on fire. When I moved the basket, I saw flames. YIKES!!!! I think I don't know if I can put water on that kind of fire. So I soak my kitchen towels and throw them on to smother the fire. It worked. Thank goodness. So I didn't burn down the apartment building, but learned a valuable lesson. That washers and dryers are not meant to be in kitchens! Haha. Okay the real lesson I learned was that the only things that should go on stoves are things like pots and pans, not flammable items. Also, I learned I really should pay attention that little voice in my head.
The towels that saved the day! I hope they aren't ruined.
The casualties....the laundry basket, Dave's new swimsuit, and Dylan's shorts.

Wow! Glad it wasn't worse! I once filled the house with smoke from a "stove mistake" too, so I can certainly understand the relief!
