Halloween

Halloween started a week earlier for us this year.  Our ward had their annual Chili Cook-Off and Trunk or Treat activity. I did make chili, but I didn't win any awards.  I'm okay with that because I just wanted to make sure there was a chili that I liked there and it must of been good because there was none left at the end of the night!  They had to change the trunk or treat to inside the church building b/c it was so cold and it had been raining all day.  So the kids walked around to the classrooms where we were handing out candy.  I'm sure the kids didn't care if they were outside or not!  I know my kids had fun!

On a side note, poor Dylan at the very end told me that his stomach didn't feel well.  I knew he wasn't feeling good when he was just sitting at the table at the end.  Usually he is running around with his friends.  I told Dave that we needed to go right then.  I felt bad not that we didn't help clean up, but I'm glad we left when we did b/c we weren't home 5 minutes before Dylan lost his dinner.  He went to bad not long after that and he was totally fine the next day.  So who knows what it was.  I just felt bad for him b/c he had the stomach flu just a few weeks before.

We meant to carve pumpkins on the Monday before Halloween, but it was late before had a chance to and it seemed to be like that every night until Thursday night.  At least we carved our pumpkins before Halloween.  Dylan helped Dave scope out the seeds and the stringy stuff out of the middle.  He thought it was nasty at first, but then it didn't bother him.

The Friday before Halloween, Dylan's school had their anuual Halloween Parade.  This is where all the kids get to walked around the whole school to show off their costumes.  They get to sit in their classroom to see everybody's costume and when they have seen all the other kids' costumes, they take their turn in the parade.  The parents get to come watch also.  It was lots of fun to see all the different and creativity costumes!

All morning it was nice and sunny and somewhat warm, so we thought trick or treating was going to turn out to a nice night.  Well, we were wrong.  It started raining, down pouring actually.  So we decided to head up to the mall's trick or treat night.  Come to find out, so did everybody else.  I've never seen so many people in that mall!  We didn't get there when they started handing out candy, so most of the stores were out of candy.  It was turning into a BIG bust!  One thing made it worth it.

One of the jewelry stores had 4 of their employees dress up as Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty and their princes.  Malaia's face was priceless when she saw them.  A lot of girls (and some boys) were having their picture taken with them.  I wasn't sure if Malaia would do it or not.  We asked her if she wanted to say hi to the princesses and you could tell she wanted to say but she was nervous.  I put her down and she went right up to Sleeping Beauty and gave her a big hug and then showed her the candy that she had gotten.  It was so cute!  She also wanted her picture taken with Cinderella too.  That made the ridulous crowds worth it!

Afterwards, the rain had stopped and there was still time to go trick or treating in our neighborhood.  Dylan definitely had more fun doing that!  They got a ton of candy because not a lot trick or treaters were out, so our neighbors were being very generous!  All in all, the kids had fun and scored enough candy to last us all year.
