We moved into our house in July, so it was a bit late to start a garden. However, I was able to get 16 tomato plants, a number of corn, zucchini, acorn squash, cauliflower, green pepper, carrot and watermelon plants for about 10 dollars. So I thought, let's try! We didn't get a lot of produce but we had fun picking the vegetables that we did get and I think we learned some things for next year.

These are our first veggies from the garden. Unfortunately, we did not get anymore corn because earwigs invaded our corn. I heard if you put soy sauce and vegetable oil in a plastic cup in the ground that the earwigs will be attracted to it and go in there and die. I will definitely be trying this next year but we have earwigs like crazy all over our yard, not just our garden. Hopefully, we will get more than 1 edible corn next year.

Our first zucchini and it was soooo YUMMY!!! We were able to grow 3 zucchinis. Luckily, we had some friends give us some more zucchinis and I was able to make zucchini bread for the first time this year and we loved it! I was able to freeze some grated zucchini, so we can make more this winter. Yum!

Here's our 2 watermelons. We have eaten one and it was delicious. But surprise, surprise when we harvested these watermelons, I found another one! I don't know how it hide from us this whole summer but it was a fun surpise!

We were able to grow one acorn squash, but ants ate the other ones that were starting to grow. I don't know what to do to combat those, so if any of you have any tips, let me know!

Here's our green tomatoes. We did get some red tomatoes but mostly the cherry tomatoes. Before we took all the plants out of the ground last week, we were about to pick a TON of green tomatoes and they are already starting to ripen and they are still very very yummy! We, also, had friends give us some roma tomatoes this year and we made homemade salsa. We followed a couple of recipes for copycat Chili's salsa. It turned out pretty yummy. We decided we will definitely plant roma tomatoes next year, so we can make homemade salsa again.

Malaia loved being outside with us when we were tending to the garden. She was either always picking up the rocks next to the garden or picking the green cherry tomatoes.

Your watermelon look awesome! It is the best to get fruits and veggies from the garden...they taste so good.
